The LOTASSA project is the result of a scientic-technological cooperation initiative among European and Latin American institutes under the auspices of the VI Framework Programme of the European Commission. The scientific contents of the project, as well as its management model, offers an excellent opportunity to approach a research on forage legumes for maginal soils that can be of great impact in the livestock production of the Southern Cone countries.

LOTASSA

LOTASSA represents a multidisciplinary research platform that will significantly contribute to increase the extension and improve sustainability of Lotus pastures dedicated to livestock feeding and pasture/crop rotational systems in South America. LOTASSA integrates functional genomics research efforts on the model legume L. japonicus with investigations on several cultivated Lotus species in South America (L. corniculatus, L. glaber, L. subbiflorus, L. uliginosus), with the goal of improving adaptation of these species to environmentally constrained soils.
